What stops working after updates from Windows, Microsoft 365, Exchange, VMware, Veeam and other major vendors – with status, workaround and fix, continuously from the vendors’ official sources, complemented by reports from forums and the community and by targeted web research. Anything the vendor has not confirmed yet is labelled as a community report.
Microsoft confirms that the Translate function in several Office apps can fail with the error "No results were found". The Office team is investigating. No workaround or fix has been published yet.
Apps such as Excel for Microsoft 365 may show an error, stop responding or close when the Microsoft Input Method Editor (IME) for Chinese or Japanese is used. Microsoft confirms the issue and lists a workaround: switch to the previous IME version.
Users cannot sign in to Microsoft 365 desktop apps and get the error "Something went wrong [1001]". Microsoft confirms the issue and names two main causes: security software affecting the WAM plug-in, and roamed user profile data. Microsoft lists the status as investigating; partial fixes are in newer Office versions and temporary workarounds exist.
Microsoft lists a known issue in Word for Windows where editing text in objects inserted into table cells behaves unexpectedly. Microsoft confirms the issue and gives its status as workaround available. The excerpt does not include further details.
After updating to version 2509 (Windows) or 16.101 (Mac), the Sketched Shape Outline in Word is not visible. Microsoft has confirmed the issue and lists a workaround. The Word team is still investigating.
Word for Microsoft 365 (Monthly Enterprise Channel, Version 2511, Build 19426.20260) shows the message 'Location is turned off in system settings' in environments where Windows Location Services are disabled. Microsoft has confirmed the issue and deployed a fix with the Monthly Enterprise Channel update of February 10 (Build 19530.20220 or newer).
Starting in build 16.97, Word for Microsoft 365 can show a Visual Basic dialog box with "Runtime error 4707" when users open documents. Microsoft confirms the issue and states it has been fixed with the Word 16.97.1 release. The feed header still shows the status as investigating, but the article text says fixed.
Word for Microsoft 365 can crash when performing a mail merge with templates (.dot/.dotm) after updating to version 2603 (build 19822.20180). Microsoft has confirmed the issue. The Word team is investigating and no workaround or fix is published yet.
Microsoft lists a known issue in which the Reuse Slides option in PowerPoint is missing after an Office update. Microsoft is investigating. No workaround or fix has been published yet.
Microsoft disabled several OLE and paste features in volume license installations of PowerPoint 2019 with the April 9, 2024 update to prevent possible file corruption and data loss. Most features were restored in the July 9, 2024 update. Two paste features remain removed, so the issue is only partially fixed. Support for Office 2019 ended on October 14, 2025.
Videos configured in PowerPoint for Windows to keep playing across several slides and stop after a set number of slides no longer behave as expected. Microsoft states that this relied on ActiveX controls, which are now disabled by default for security and compliance reasons. The issue is confirmed by Microsoft and under investigation.
After Microsoft Defender Antivirus update 4.18.26070.9 (released August 5, 2026), Windows and Windows Server may show notifications that Microsoft Defender Antivirus is turned off, although it works correctly. Microsoft confirmed the issue and resolved it in update 4.18.26080.4, released on September 17, 2026.
Some USB Audio Class 1.0 devices might fail to start or produce no audio after installing Windows 11, version 26H2. Microsoft lists the same issue for other Windows client and server versions, where it originates from the September 8, 2026 security updates. For 26H2 the vendor status is Mitigated and a fix in a future Windows update is still being worked on.
After the October 2026 Windows security update, some on-premises Exchange servers might have trouble accessing or sending email. The update introduced a default limit on the memory Endpoint Mapper uses for Endpoint Lookup calls, which can be too low for Exchange under heavy load. Microsoft lists the status as mitigated and is still investigating.
As EWS is deprecated in Exchange Online from 2026-10-01, cross-tenant Free/Busy, MailTips and calendar sharing with other Microsoft 365 organizations must move to the Microsoft 365 Cross-Tenant Access Policy (Message Center MC1446796). Only tenants that have set up such sharing are affected. According to the vendor's update of 2026-10-29, the feature is not yet fully available and rollout dates are given in a table in the blog post.
Cuba announced on 2026-10-27 that it will stay on daylight saving time (UTC-04:00) and not turn clocks back on 2026-11-01. Windows devices set to (UTC-05:00) Havana might display an incorrect local time. Microsoft plans a Windows update with the November 2026 security update and has published interim guidance.
Microsoft is replacing the Secure Boot certificates from 2011 with 2023 versions. The old certificates expire between June and October 2026. Devices without the new certificates keep starting and receiving normal Windows updates, but can no longer receive new boot-level security protections. Microsoft states that it manages the update automatically on many devices.
Microsoft is hardening the Kerberos Key Distribution Center (KDC) on domain controllers against CVE-2026-20833, an information disclosure flaw that lets attackers obtain RC4-encrypted service tickets for offline password attacks. Since the updates of 14 April 2026, the default for accounts without an explicit encryption setting is AES-SHA1 only. Updates from July 2026 remove the rollback option. Status as of 2026-11-01: the change is live.
Following CVE-2022-26923, CVE-2022-26931 and CVE-2022-34691, domain controllers require strong certificate mappings for Kerberos certificate-based authentication. Since the September 9, 2025 update, the option to revert to Compatibility mode is no longer supported, so certificates without strong mapping are rejected. The change is live.
With the October 13, 2026 Windows security update, Microsoft moved the ACL (access control list) hardening of the AD FS Distributed Key Manager (DKM) container into Enforcement mode.
