Mapster WP Maps: Missing authorization in REST API allows post modification

CVE-2026-118638High 7.5

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

The Mapster WP Maps WordPress plugin before version 2.0.6 has a REST API route that writes post data without any authorization check. An unauthenticated remote attacker can overwrite the title of arbitrary posts, create published posts and change the plugin's stored settings. The attack requires no login, so any reachable WordPress site running an affected version is exposed.

Affected

  • Mapster WP Maps WordPress plugin, all versions before 2.0.6 (VulDB lists up to 2.0.5)

Fixed in

  • Version 2.0.6 (changelog entry not independently verified)

Workaround

  • Unknown. No vendor workaround found.
  • Until patched, restrict access to the plugin's REST endpoint if possible, or deactivate the plugin where its map features are not business-critical.

Exploitation

  • No known exploitation in the wild.
  • No public proof of concept found.
  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable yes, technical impact partial.

Our recommendation

  • Identify all WordPress sites running Mapster WP Maps and check the installed version.
  • Update to version 2.0.6 or later and confirm the version afterwards.
  • Check for unexpected posts or changed post titles and review plugin settings for tampering.
  • Deactivate the plugin on sites where it is not business-critical until it is patched.
  • Plan regular updates for this plugin, as it has had several other vulnerabilities.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
