Windows Storage Port Driver: Privilege escalation via untrusted pointer dereference

CVE-2026-102188Medium 6.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

The Windows Storage Port Driver, a kernel-level component for storage devices, contains an untrusted pointer dereference (CWE-822). An unauthorized attacker with physical access to an affected device can use it to elevate privileges, with high impact on confidentiality, integrity and availability. Exploitation requires physical access, so the flaw is not reachable remotely over the network.

Affected

  • Windows 10 Version 1607 (10.0.14393.0 to < 10.0.14393.9612)
  • Windows 10 Version 1809 (10.0.17763.0 to < 10.0.17763.9376)
  • Windows 10 Version 21H2 (10.0.19044.0 to < 10.0.19044.7807)
  • Windows 10 Version 22H2 (10.0.19045.0 to < 10.0.19045.7807)
  • Windows 11 Version 23H2 (10.0.22631.0 to < 10.0.22631.7652)
  • Windows 11 Version 24H2 (10.0.26100.0 to < 10.0.26100.9711)
  • Windows 11 Version 25H2 (10.0.26200.0 to < 10.0.26200.9711)
  • Windows 11 Version 26H1 (10.0.28000.0 to < 10.0.28000.3231)
  • Windows 11 Version 26H2 (10.0.26300.0 to < 10.0.26300.9711)
  • Windows Server 2012 incl. Server Core (6.2.9200.0 to < 6.2.9200.26434)
  • Windows Server 2012 R2 incl. Server Core (6.3.9600.0 to < 6.3.9600.23470)
  • Windows Server 2016 (10.0.14393.0 to < 10.0.14393.9612)

Fixed in

  • Fixed builds per the CNA record: the first build listed as not affected in each range above, for example 10.0.14393.9612 for Windows 10 1607 and Server 2016.
  • Verify the exact update and KB number for each OS build on the Microsoft Security Update Guide before deployment.

Workaround

  • Unknown. No vendor workaround was found in the sources.
  • Restrict physical access to affected devices and servers.
  • Full-disk encryption (BitLocker) and locked, supervised workstations are general defensive measures, not taken from the vendor advisory.

Exploitation

  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, not automatable, total technical impact.
  • In the wild: no evidence found.
  • Public proof of concept: none found for this CVE.
  • EPSS 0.00417 (low).

Our recommendation

  • Inventory all Windows 10 1607, Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2 and 2016 systems and check their vendor support status.
  • Install the October 2026 security update for each affected build once the exact KB is confirmed on the Microsoft Security Update Guide.
  • Prioritise physical security for laptops, servers and shared workstations, and enable full-disk encryption.
  • Monitor for vendor updates to this advisory and for any change in exploitation status.
