Summary

A path traversal vulnerability in QNAP Video Station allows an attacker with a valid user account to read files or system data outside the intended directories. The attack requires low privileges and no user interaction, and the CVSS v4.0 base score is 7.7 (High). The impact is information disclosure; stolen configuration or credential files could enable follow-on attacks.

Affected

  • Earlier branches (5.7.x and below): Unknown.

Fixed in

  • Video Station 5.8.5 and later. Later releases also fix other Video Station flaws, so install the latest release.

Workaround

  • No vendor workaround known.
  • Limit the number of users with NAS accounts and remove unused accounts.
  • Disable or uninstall Video Station if it is not needed.

Exploitation

  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable no.
  • Not listed in the CISA KEV catalogue.
  • No public proof of concept or in-the-wild exploitation known.
  • EPSS: 0.37%.

Our recommendation

  • Check the installed Video Station version in the App Center.
  • Update to the latest Video Station release, not only 5.8.5.
  • Review NAS user accounts and remove unused ones.
  • Confirm the NAS is not directly reachable from the internet.
  • Verify the affected and fixed versions on QNAP's security advisory page before acting.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
