Apache Thrift Java: Resource leak in TSaslNonblockingServer

CVE-2026-94651High 8.2

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

The Java bindings of Apache Thrift fail to release a connection in TSaslNonblockingServer when a pre-authentication parse error occurs. A remote, unauthenticated attacker can send a malformed request to exhaust server resources, which leads to a denial of service. The CVSS 4.0 base score is 8.2 (High), but the impact is limited to availability; no data theft or code execution is documented.

Affected

  • Apache Thrift (Java bindings, Maven org.apache.thrift:libthrift) before 0.25.0
  • Azure Linux package thrift 0.24.0-1 (per Azure Linux advisory)
  • Downstream products that bundle an older libthrift version

Fixed in

  • Apache Thrift 0.25.0 or later
  • openSUSE: thrift 0.25.0-1.1
  • Debian and downstream vendors: fixed version unknown

Workaround

  • Unknown. No official workaround was found; upgrading is the only documented remediation.
  • Services that do not use the Java TSaslNonblockingServer are likely not exposed (inference, confirm in your own code).

Exploitation

  • Known exploitation: none. CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable yes, technical impact partial.
  • Public proof of concept: none found.
  • Not listed in CISA KEV according to one aggregator.

Our recommendation

  • Inventory libthrift versions in Java applications and SBOMs.
  • Upgrade libthrift to 0.25.0 or later where you control the code.
  • Where a third-party product bundles an older version, ask the vendor for a fixed build or override the dependency version.
  • Patch CVE-2026-61373 (same Apache release batch, also fixed in 0.25.0) together with this issue.
  • Monitor internet-facing Java Thrift services that use SASL non-blocking mode.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
