MindsDB: Code injection leading to remote code execution in OpenBBtable
Summary
MindsDB, an open-source platform connecting databases and AI/ML models, contains a code injection flaw in the OpenBBtable class. The application does not properly validate a user-supplied string before using it to execute Python code. An authenticated remote attacker can execute arbitrary code in the context of the service account, with full impact on confidentiality, integrity and availability.
Affected
- MindsDB 25.10.1 (according to the CVE record; default status unknown)
- Other versions: Unknown.
Fixed in
Unknown. No vendor patch or fixed version has been identified.
Workaround
- Restrict interaction with the MindsDB product to trusted users and networks (ZDI's only stated mitigation).
- Limit the number of accounts with query access and use strong authentication.
- Remove or disable the OpenBB integration if it is not required. This is a recommendation, not a vendor instruction.
Exploitation
- Not listed in CISA KEV.
- EPSS score 0.00699 (very low predicted exploitation).
- No public proof-of-concept found in our research; absence of evidence is not proof.
- ZDI reported the issue to the vendor on 20 Nov 2025 and published the advisory on 16 Sep 2026 after no response to follow-ups.
Our recommendation
- Inventory all MindsDB instances, their versions and whether the OpenBB integration is installed.
- Make sure no MindsDB instance is directly reachable from the internet; restrict access to trusted networks or VPN.
- Review user accounts and reduce privileges to the minimum required.
- Monitor the vendor's GitHub security advisories and releases and upgrade promptly once a fixed version is available.
- Monitor the service for unexpected Python process execution or unusual outbound connections.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)
MindsDB OpenBBtable Code Injection Remote Code Execution Vulnerability. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of MindsDB. Authentication is required to exploit this vulnerability. The specific flaw exists within the OpenBBtable class. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of a user-supplied string before using it to execute Python code.
