NASA F Prime: Out-of-bounds write via unvalidated port index in GenericHub

CVE-2026-92152Critical 9.3

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

F Prime, a framework for spaceflight and embedded software, is affected in Svc::GenericHub, the component that routes packets between nodes. A remote hub packet with a port index outside the configured output-port array makes assert-enabled builds abort, and builds without assertions can corrupt heap memory, which may allow remote code execution. The CVE record does not state any authentication requirement, and CVSS v4.0 rates the flaw as network-reachable with no privileges and no user interaction.

Affected

  • NASA F Prime from 4.1.0 up to, but not including, 4.2.0
  • Component: Svc::GenericHub (output-port dispatch)
  • CWE-129: Improper validation of array index

Fixed in

  • Fixed in F Prime 4.2.0 (fix commit b56b536, PR #4929)
  • Newer release 4.3.0 also available and recommended, with further security fixes

Workaround

  • Unknown. No workaround is documented; upgrading is the only documented remedy.

Exploitation

  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable yes, technical impact total.
  • Not listed in CISA KEV; no known exploitation in the wild in the sources reviewed.
  • Public proof-of-concept status is unclear; one aggregator reports none, with low confidence.

Our recommendation

  • Check whether you use F Prime 4.1.x and whether hub links are reachable from untrusted networks.
  • Upgrade to F Prime 4.3.0 (at least 4.2.0) and rebuild affected firmware and ground software.
  • Restrict network access to hub interfaces until the upgrade is done.
  • Monitor logs for assertion aborts or unexpected hub traffic.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)

F´ (F Prime) is a framework that enables development and deployment of spaceflight and other embedded software applications. From 4.1.0 until 4.2.0, Svc::GenericHub output-port dispatch is vulnerable because the deserialized port field is passed to serialOut_out, bufferOut_out, eventOut_out, or tlmOut_out without an explicit range check. When a remote hub packet supplies a port index outside the configured output-port array, assert-enabled builds abort, while builds without assertions can access an output-port array out of bounds, corrupt heap memory, and potentially allow remote code execution. This issue is fixed in version 4.2.0.
