upKeeper Instant Privilege Access: Improper handling of undefined values

CVE-2026-92088High 8.6

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

upKeeper Instant Privilege Access (IPA), a tool for temporarily granting local administrator rights, contains an improper handling of undefined values flaw (CWE-232) that allows privilege escalation. An attacker with local access and a low-privileged account can gain higher privileges, which would undermine the removal of permanent admin rights. The CVSS 4.0 score is 8.6 (High), with the vector requiring active user interaction. NVD analysis was still pending at the time of research.

Affected

  • upKeeper Instant Privilege Access: versions 0 through 1.7.1 (per CNA data; not yet confirmed by NVD)

Fixed in

Unknown.

Workaround

  • No vendor-confirmed mitigation found.
  • Until a fix is confirmed, treat all IPA installations at version 1.7.1 or earlier as exposed.
  • Limit who can request elevation under IPA rules and review those rules.
  • Review IPA audit logs for unusual elevations and remove standing local admin rights where possible.

Exploitation

  • No evidence of exploitation in the wild found; no CISA KEV entry found.
  • No public proof of concept found.
  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable no, technical impact total.

Our recommendation

  • Check the installed IPA version on every endpoint and identify installations at 1.7.1 or earlier.
  • Check the vendor advisory for a fix and update as soon as a fixed version is available; ask upKeeper for the fixed build if the advisory has none.
  • Apply the interim measures above, restrict elevation rules, and monitor IPA logs.
  • Re-check the advisory and CISA KEV status in a few days.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
