Oracle BI Publisher: Open redirect in BI Platform Security
Summary
A vulnerability in the BI Platform Security component of Oracle BI Publisher allows an unauthenticated attacker with HTTP network access to compromise the application, according to the CNA. The attack requires a person other than the attacker to take an action, such as following a crafted link. The CNA reports a CVSS 3.1 base score of 8.8 and describes the possible outcome as takeover of the BI Publisher instance, while the CWE is CWE-601 (open redirect).
Affected
- Oracle BI Publisher 8.2.0.0.0
- Oracle BI Publisher 12.2.1.4.0
- Oracle BI Publisher 26.01.0.0.0 (one Oracle advisory lists this as 26.1.0.0.0; confirm the exact build you run)
Fixed in
Unknown. Apply the Oracle Critical Patch Update of October 2026 for BI Publisher and confirm the fixed build in Oracle's advisory and patch availability document.
Workaround
Unknown. No official vendor workaround was found.
Exploitation
- No exploitation in the wild has been reported.
- No public proof of concept is known.
- The SSVC data in the CVE record lists exploitation as none and automatable as no.
- The CVE is not listed in CISA KEV.
Our recommendation
- Check whether BI Publisher is installed and which version runs.
- Check whether the BI Publisher web interface is reachable from the internet or untrusted networks, and treat an exposed instance as urgent.
- Apply the October 2026 Oracle CPU with the fixed build from Oracle's advisory. Do not patch to a guessed version.
- Until patched, remove direct internet exposure, restrict access to internal or VPN users, and warn users about links from unexpected sources.
- Review web server logs for unusual requests to the BI Publisher interface.
- Re-check the NVD entry and Oracle advisory regularly, as the record was still Awaiting Analysis.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
