Oracle Outside In Technology: Deserialization vulnerability in Image Export SDK
Summary
Oracle Outside In Technology version 8.5.8, specifically the Outside In Image Export SDK component, contains a deserialization flaw (CWE-502). An attacker with a foothold on the host where the SDK runs can take over the library, with high impact on confidentiality, integrity and availability. Exploitation requires that a user interacts with a crafted file or input processed by the software.
Affected
- Oracle Outside In Technology 8.5.8 (Outside In Image Export SDK)
- Vendor applications that bundle this SDK version (exact list unknown)
Fixed in
Unknown. The fixed version is not confirmed in the sources reviewed; Oracle's October 2026 Critical Patch Update lists this CVE.
Workaround
- Unknown from vendor sources.
- Third-party guidance (OpenCVE, not Oracle) advises disabling or restricting use of the Outside In Image Export SDK until a patch is available.
Exploitation
- CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable no.
- Not listed in CISA KEV.
- EPSS approximately 0.2%.
- Public proof of concept: not found (not exhaustively searched).
Our recommendation
- Check whether any installed software bundles Outside In 8.5.8, including hidden components in vendor applications.
- Ask vendors when they will ship a build with Oracle's fix and apply it as soon as available.
- Restrict local logon to hosts running the SDK and limit processing of files from untrusted sources.
- Assess priority higher if an internet-facing or multi-user service embeds the SDK; monitor Oracle's advisory for the fixed version.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
