Oracle HTTP Server: Improper privilege management in OSSL Module
Summary
Oracle HTTP Server 12.2.1.4.0 (Oracle Fusion Middleware) contains a flaw in the OSSL Module, classified as CWE-269 (Improper Privilege Management). An attacker with low privileges and logon access to the host can compromise the server and take it over, with high impact on confidentiality, integrity and availability (CVSS 7.8). The attack requires local access, so the flaw is not directly reachable from the internet, but risk rises where many users have shell or logon access.
Affected
- Oracle HTTP Server 12.2.1.4.0 (Oracle Fusion Middleware, OSSL Module)
Fixed in
Unknown. Check the Oracle October 2026 Critical Patch Update advisory and My Oracle Support for the fixed release of the 12.2.1.4.0 line.
Workaround
Unknown. No vendor workaround is documented.
Exploitation
- No known exploitation.
- CISA SSVC: Exploitation none, Automatable no, Technical Impact total.
- No public proof of concept found in the sources reviewed.
- EPSS score 0.00145 (low).
Our recommendation
- Check whether Oracle HTTP Server 12.2.1.4.0 is in use.
- If it is in use, apply the Oracle October 2026 Critical Patch Update fix in the next maintenance window.
- Restrict local shell and logon access to hosts running Oracle HTTP Server.
- Also check and patch CVE-2026-87347 in the same component, which is network-reachable and rated higher.
- If Oracle HTTP Server is not in use, no action is needed beyond confirming its absence.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
