WP Verify API WordPress plugin: Unauthenticated SQL injection via verify parameter

CVE-2026-89299High 8.6

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

The WP Verify API WordPress plugin through version 1.0.0 does not properly sanitize a parameter before using it in an SQL query. An unauthenticated remote attacker can inject SQL commands and may read data from the WordPress database, potentially including user data and password hashes. No fixed version is known, and no exploitation in the wild is documented.

Affected

  • WP Verify API WordPress plugin, versions 0 through 1.0.0 (all versions)
  • Fixed version: Unknown.

Fixed in

Unknown. WPScan lists no known fix, and no patched release was found.

Workaround

  • Deactivate and remove the plugin if it is not needed.
  • If it is needed, restrict access to its REST route at the web server or WAF level and use a WAF with SQL injection rules.
  • Limit the database account used by the site to the least privileges required.
  • Review logs for unusual requests to the plugin's endpoints.

Exploitation

  • CISA KEV: not listed.
  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable yes, technical impact partial.
  • EPSS: low (about 0.18% at the time of research; values vary by date).
  • Public proof of concept: unknown.
  • Exploitation in the wild: nothing known in the sources checked.

Our recommendation

  • Inventory all WordPress sites for the WP Verify API plugin.
  • Remove the plugin where possible.
  • Where removal is not possible, apply the workarounds above and restrict database privileges.
  • Monitor for vendor updates and for unusual requests to the plugin endpoints.
  • Prioritise sites that use the plugin for OTP or email verification, since they are internet-facing and require no login to attack.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
