Hitachi JP1/Base: Heap-based buffer overflow

CVE-2026-86574Critical 9.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Hitachi JP1/Base, a component of the JP1 job management and systems management products, contains a heap-based buffer overflow (CWE-122 per the CNA; VulDB lists CWE-120). According to the CVSS 3.1 vector, the flaw can be exploited remotely over the network without privileges or user interaction and can lead to full loss of confidentiality, integrity and availability. Whether the vulnerable code path is reachable before authentication has not been confirmed.

Affected

  • JP1/Base Linux, Solaris, HP-UX: 12-50 to 12-50-53, 12-10 to 12-10-11, 12-00 to 12-00-34, 11-50 to 11-50-35, 11-10 to 11-10-32, 11-00 to 11-00-31
  • JP1/Base AIX: 12-50 to 12-50-53, 12-10 to 12-10-11, 12-00 to 12-00-34, 11-50 to 11-50-34, 11-10 to 11-10-32, 11-00 to 11-00-31
  • The CNA record describes the range as 11-00 before 12-50-54; this conflicts with the vendor advisory for the 11-50 line.
  • Windows is covered by the companion advisory HITACHI-SEC-2026-155 (CVE-2026-86575).

Fixed in

  • JP1/Base 12-50-54 (Linux, AIX, HP-UX, Solaris)
  • JP1/Base 11-50-36 (Linux, AIX, HP-UX, Solaris), pending confirmation with Hitachi support because of the CNA range discrepancy
  • Fix status for the 12-00, 12-10, 11-00 and 11-10 lines: Unknown.

Workaround

Unknown. No vendor workaround is published in the advisory; Hitachi directs customers to its support representative.

Exploitation

  • No public proof of concept found; VulDB reports no exploit available.
  • Not listed in CISA KEV at the time of research.
  • Whether attack traffic has been observed is unclear.
  • EPSS: 0.52 % (percentile 44).

Our recommendation

  • Inventory all hosts with JP1/Base, including those installed as part of JP1/IM or JP1/AJS and Windows systems, and record exact version and OS.
  • Plan upgrades to 12-50-54 (and 11-50-36 where applicable) after confirming with Hitachi support.
  • For the 12-00, 12-10, 11-00 and 11-10 lines, obtain the fix or interim guidance from Hitachi support.
  • Restrict network access to JP1 services to known management hosts and check for external exposure.
  • Re-check the NVD record, CISA KEV and VulDB for changes.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
