click5 CRM add-on to WPForms: Unauthenticated arbitrary options update

CVE-2026-84252Critical 9.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

The click5 CRM add-on for the WPForms WordPress plugin (up to and including 1.0.3) exposes a REST endpoint that updates WordPress options without authorisation or CSRF checks and does not restrict updates to the add-on's own settings. An unauthenticated remote attacker can change arbitrary blog options, for example to create a new administrator account and take over the website. The NVD score is 9.8 (critical); no vendor fix is available and the plugin appears to be unmaintained.

Affected

  • click5 CRM add-on to WPForms (plugin slug wpf-add-on-by-click5), versions up to and including 1.0.3
  • Unknown whether other versions are affected

Fixed in

Unknown. No fixed version is known; WPScan lists the plugin with "No known fix".

Workaround

  • Deactivate and remove the add-on if it is not business-critical
  • Restricting access to the REST API at web-server or WAF level is only a stopgap; no vendor-validated guidance exists

Exploitation

  • Attack requires no authentication and no user interaction, over the network
  • CISA SSVC: automatable yes, technical impact total
  • No public exploit confirmed; VulDB states no exploit exists; EPSS about 0.1%
  • Not listed in CISA KEV; no evidence of exploitation in the wild found

Our recommendation

  • Inventory all WordPress sites for the wpf-add-on-by-click5 plugin and check for it in WPForms-related plugin lists
  • Remove or disable the add-on where possible, as no patch is expected
  • Audit administrator accounts and recent option changes for signs of compromise
  • Watch for vendor or WPScan updates and review related CVE-2026-84259 (XSS in the same plugin family)

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Research sources

Researched and written up in English and German by an AI (Claude by Anthropic) based on NVD, CISA, EPSS and the sources listed. The vendor information is authoritative. Researched on 30 Oct 2026, 19:18.

Original description (NVD)

The click5 CRM add-on to WPForms WordPress plugin through 1.0.3 does not have authorisation and CSRF checks when updating options via a REST endpoint, and does not ensure that the option to be updated belongs to the click5 CRM add-on to WPForms WordPress plugin through 1.0.3. As a result, unauthenticated attackers could change arbitrary blog options, allowing them to create a new administrator account and take over the site.
