Hitachi Coding Software Suite: Path traversal allows arbitrary file access

CVE-2026-82824Critical 9.3

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Hitachi Coding Software Suite (HCSS) through version 3.3.0 contains a path traversal vulnerability (CWE-35). An attacker who can reach the software over the network may be able to view, create, modify or delete arbitrary files on the affected system. According to the CVSS 4.0 vector reported by third parties, no privileges or user interaction are required, but the vendor's advisory has not been independently verified. No exploitation has been confirmed.

Affected

  • Hitachi Coding Software Suite V3.3.0 and earlier

Fixed in

  • Upgrade to Hitachi Coding Software Suite V4.0.0 (per vendor advisory HIES-SEC-2026-002)

Workaround

  • None listed by the vendor.
  • Interim measure (not from the vendor): restrict network and file-share access to HCSS hosts until V4.0.0 is installed.

Exploitation

  • VulDB (1 Oct 2026) reports no exploit available.
  • CISA KEV: not listed according to a third-party index; recheck before relying on this.
  • CISA SSVC assessment: exploitation none, automatable yes, technical impact total.

Our recommendation

  • Check whether HCSS is installed in your environment and record the version.
  • Upgrade any installation at V3.3.0 or earlier to V4.0.0.
  • Do not expose HCSS hosts to the internet and restrict SMB or file-share access to them.
  • Review related Hitachi CVEs in the same advisory (CVE-2026-82825, missing authentication; CVE-2026-82829, hidden accounts), which may be more directly exploitable.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
