Hitachi HiRDB: Missing authentication for critical function

CVE-2026-82116Critical 9.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Hitachi HiRDB database servers contain a missing authentication flaw for a critical function (CWE-306). A remote attacker without credentials and without user interaction may be able to use the affected function, with possible impact on confidentiality, integrity and availability. Hitachi rates the issue CVSS 9.8 (Critical). The vendor does not describe which function is affected in the text reviewed.

Affected

  • HiRDB Server Version 10: 10-00 before 10-12-01
  • HiRDB Server Version 9: 09-00 through 09-66-22
  • HiRDB Server with Additional Function Version 9: 09-00 through 09-66/V
  • HiRDB Server Version 9(32): 09-02 through 09-66-22
  • HiRDB Server with Additional Function Version 9(32): 09-00 through 09-66-/V

Fixed in

  • HiRDB Server Version 10: 10-12-01 (also 10-11-02 and 10-08-05 listed as fixed versions by Hitachi)
  • HiRDB Server Version 9 and 9(32): Unknown.

Workaround

  • Unknown. No vendor workaround found in the sources reviewed.

Exploitation

  • Exploited in the wild: no evidence found. OffSeq lists it as not known to be exploited.
  • Public proof of concept: none found. VulDB reports no exploit available.
  • CISA KEV: not checked.

Our recommendation

  • Identify all HiRDB installations and their exact versions, including versions embedded in vendor or industrial applications.
  • Patch HiRDB Version 10 below 10-12-01 as a priority.
  • For 9.x versions, ask Hitachi for the fix status and isolate these systems until a fix is available.
  • Remove any internet exposure of HiRDB and restrict database access to known application servers via firewall allowlists.
  • Monitor database access logs for unexpected connections.
  • Treat this as part of the batch with CVE-2026-82117 and patch both together.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
