HPE ArubaOS 8: Unauthenticated SQL injection allows remote code execution

CVE-2026-79848Critical 10.0

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

HPE ArubaOS 8 (AOS-8), the operating system of Aruba wireless controllers, gateways and Instant access points, contains an unauthenticated SQL injection flaw in an affected interface. A remote attacker without credentials can send crafted requests over the network and, according to HPE, execute arbitrary commands on the underlying operating system, which could compromise all Wi-Fi traffic handled by the device. Exposure is highest if management interfaces are reachable from the internet or from guest or untrusted networks. HPE has released fixed builds.

Affected

  • AOS-8 8.13.0.0 to 8.13.3.0
  • AOS-8 8.10.0.0 to 8.10.0.23
  • 8.12 branch: conflicting data between sources, treat as affected until verified
  • Older or end-of-maintenance releases: not covered by the advisory, treat as affected

Fixed in

  • AOS-8 8.13.x: 8.13.3.1 and later
  • AOS-8 8.10.x: 8.10.0.24 and later
  • Obtain builds from the HPE Networking Support Portal.

Workaround

  • No patch-independent workaround documented in the sources reviewed.
  • HPE recommends restricting access to AOS management interfaces; confirm the exact steps in the advisory.

Exploitation

  • HPE is not aware of public discussion or exploit code as of the advisory date.
  • No reports of in-the-wild exploitation found. One secondary source states the CVE is not in the CISA KEV catalogue; this is not verified.
  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable yes, technical impact total.

Our recommendation

  • Inventory all controllers, gateways and Instant access points by AOS-8 version.
  • Upgrade to 8.13.3.1 or 8.10.0.24 (or later) per branch; treat 8.12 and end-of-maintenance builds as affected.
  • Ensure management interfaces are not reachable from the internet or from guest networks.
  • Check logs for unexpected database or command activity.
  • Patch the whole AOS-8 build, including related bulletin items CVE-2026-79852 and CVE-2026-79858.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Research sources

Original description (NVD)

Vulnerabilities in the affected interface of AOS-8 could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to conduct SQL injection attacks against an affected AOS-8 instance. Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the underlying operating system.
