HPE ArubaOS AOS-8: Unauthenticated command injection

CVE-2026-79846Critical 10.0

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Command injection vulnerabilities in an interface of HPE ArubaOS AOS-8 (Mobility Conductors, Mobility Controllers and Instant access points) allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to run arbitrary commands on the underlying operating system. The CVSS score is 10.0 (critical), and the scope is changed. According to HPE, exploitation depends on preconditions outside the attacker's control, which HPE does not describe in detail.

Affected

  • AOS-8 8.13.0.0 to 8.13.3.0 (vendor range; some third-party sources give 8.12.0.0 as lower bound, to be verified)
  • AOS-8 8.10.0.0 to 8.10.0.23
  • Unsupported branches should be treated as affected until HPE confirms otherwise
  • AOS-10 is not affected by this CVE

Fixed in

  • AOS-8 8.13.3.1 or later
  • AOS-8 8.10.0.24 or later

Workaround

  • Place CLI and web management interfaces on a dedicated management VLAN or layer-2 segment, or restrict them with firewall rules, as stated in the HPE interim measures
  • Enable accounting for management access

Exploitation

  • HPE is not aware of public exploit code or discussion as of the advisory date
  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable yes, total technical impact
  • No in-the-wild exploitation reports found; CISA KEV listing not confirmed

Our recommendation

  • Inventory all AOS-8 Mobility Controllers and Instant APs and check the exact build
  • Restrict CLI and web management to a management VLAN or firewall policy and confirm they are not reachable from the internet, user or guest networks
  • Upgrade to 8.13.3.1, 8.10.0.24 or later, and verify the affected range against the HPE advisory first
  • Monitor management interface logs for unusual activity and watch HPE and CISA for updates

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Research sources

Researched and written up in English and German by an AI (Claude by Anthropic) based on NVD, CISA, EPSS and the sources listed. The vendor information is authoritative. Researched on 30 Oct 2026, 14:01.

Original description (NVD)

Command injection vulnerabilities exist in the affected interface of AOS-8 that could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to run arbitrary commands on the underlying host if certain preconditions outside of the attacker's control are met. Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the underlying operating system.
