HPE ClearPass Policy Manager: Improper access control in Android client app

CVE-2026-79797High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

The Android client application for HPE Networking ClearPass Policy Manager can be invoked by untrusted sources. An unauthenticated remote attacker who can get the user to interact with a crafted request may obtain sensitive information from the affected user. The CNA (HPE) rates the CVSS 3.1 base score at 8.8 (High), and NVD analysis was still pending at publication.

Affected

  • ClearPass Policy Manager (CPPM) 6.14.0 and earlier, according to the CNA record
  • ClearPass Policy Manager (CPPM) 6.11.0 to 6.11.15
  • Android client app versions: Unknown.

Fixed in

  • ClearPass Policy Manager 6.14.1 or 6.11.16 (per third-party sources; verify against HPE advisory HPESBNW05158)
  • Android client app: Unknown.

Workaround

Unknown for this CVE. The general HPE bulletin measure is to restrict the CLI and web management interfaces to a dedicated layer 2 segment or VLAN and/or to firewall policies. This does not protect the mobile app.

Exploitation

  • No known exploitation as of the advisory date.
  • CISA SSVC: Exploitation none, Automatable no.
  • Not listed in CISA KEV.
  • No public proof of concept found.

Our recommendation

  • Patch CPPM to 6.14.1 or 6.11.16 after verifying the fixed versions in the HPE advisory.
  • Update the Android client app as soon as HPE publishes a fixed version.
  • Until patched, remove the app from managed devices or restrict its use.
  • Do not expose CPPM management interfaces to the internet.
  • Monitor the HPE advisory for updates.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
