Original WordPress theme: Unauthenticated PHP Object Injection

CVE-2026-66568Critical 9.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

The Original WordPress theme by axiomthemes, in versions up to and including 1.9.0, is vulnerable to PHP Object Injection through deserialization of untrusted input. An unauthenticated attacker can send crafted data to the website and potentially execute harmful code on the server. Whether the flaw leads to code execution depends on other plugins or themes installed on the site that could form a usable gadget chain.

Affected

  • Original theme for WordPress, versions <= 1.9.0

Fixed in

  • Unknown. No vendor patch or fixed version has been published according to the sources reviewed.

Workaround

  • No vendor-issued workaround known.
  • Deactivate and remove the theme if it is not actively used.
  • Audit other installed plugins and themes for deserialization issues.
  • Restrict access to the website where possible.
  • A web application firewall may reduce exposure, but no vendor-validated rule is known.

Exploitation

  • CISA SSVC (Vulnrichment): Exploitation none, Automatable yes, Technical Impact total.
  • Not known to be exploited in the wild and not listed in CISA KEV.
  • Public proof-of-concept exploit: not confirmed.

Our recommendation

  • Identify all websites running Original <= 1.9.0.
  • Remove or disable the theme where possible.
  • Check regularly for a vendor patch and apply it as soon as it is available.
  • Review co-installed plugins and themes that could form a usable chain.
  • Monitor the website for suspicious activity and consider a web application firewall as an interim measure.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
