Drone Media WordPress theme: Unauthenticated PHP Object Injection

CVE-2026-66482Critical 9.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

The Drone Media WordPress theme up to and including version 2.2.0 is affected by an unauthenticated PHP Object Injection vulnerability (CWE-502). An unauthenticated remote attacker can send crafted serialized data to the website, which may lead to code execution, file deletion or data theft if a suitable gadget chain exists in other installed software. No public proof of concept has been found, and exploitation is not known. CVSS 9.8 (Critical).

Affected

  • Drone Media theme versions up to and including 2.2.0
  • Default status and fixed versions are inconsistent across sources; treat the explicit range <= 2.2.0 as authoritative

Fixed in

Unknown. No vendor patch has been confirmed. Do not assume that version 2.13.0 or later fixes this issue until AncoraThemes or Patchstack confirms it.

Workaround

  • Deactivate or uninstall the Drone Media theme until a secure version is available
  • If it must remain active, restrict access to admin and endpoints at the WAF or reverse proxy
  • Keep WordPress core, other plugins and PHP up to date to reduce available gadget chains
  • Remove any nulled or pirated copies of the theme

Exploitation

  • Not listed in CISA KEV
  • CISA SSVC: Exploitation none, Automatable yes, Technical Impact total
  • EPSS very low (0.00304)
  • No public proof of concept found so far
  • Patchstack describes the issue as high priority and expects exploitation

Our recommendation

  • Inventory all WordPress sites and check whether the Drone Media theme is installed and its version
  • Deactivate or replace the theme on affected sites, or isolate them
  • Ask AncoraThemes whether a fixed release exists
  • Check for nulled copies and treat any such site as potentially compromised
  • Monitor logs for suspicious requests and re-check the status of this CVE regularly

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
