Apache Kylin: Missing authorization in metadata dump API
Summary
Apache Kylin contains a missing authorization and path-confinement flaw in a backend metadata dump API. An attacker who can reach the affected API may be able to obtain sensitive metadata without sufficient permissions. The main exposure is Kylin services directly reachable from the public network; the vendor states that in-house deployments are mostly not impacted.
Affected
- Apache Kylin 4.0.0 through 5.0.4 (as stated in the vendor advisory)
Fixed in
- Apache Kylin 5.0.5
- A fixed 4.x release: Unknown.
Workaround
- Unknown. No vendor-documented workaround found.
- Restrict access to Kylin web and API ports to trusted networks or VPN until the upgrade is done.
Exploitation
- No known exploitation in the wild at the time of writing.
- No public proof of concept found.
- Not listed in CISA KEV (based on limited searching).
- CISA SSVC: Automatable yes, Technical Impact total.
Our recommendation
- Identify all Kylin installations and versions, including 4.x.
- Check whether any Kylin endpoint is reachable from the internet and restrict access if so.
- Plan the upgrade to Apache Kylin 5.0.5 and verify against the Apache advisory.
- Monitor the NVD record and the Apache thread for updates.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)
Missing Authorization vulnerability in Apache Kylin. A backend metadata dump API misses the enough authorization and the path-confinement. Impact most to the kylin services that are directly exposed to public network, which is not common. In-house kylin deployments are mostly not impacted. This issue affects Apache Kylin: from 4 through 5.0.4. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 5.0.5, which fixes the issue.
