ThingLinks: Unauthenticated SQL injection in TDengine TDS APIs

CVE-2026-62849Critical 9.1

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

ThingLinks, an enterprise IoT platform, contains an SQL injection flaw in the TDengine TDS API endpoint /anyUser/tds/insertTableData. JSON field values are passed unsafely into SQL statements generated by the TDS mapper. A remote attacker without authentication can insert unintended rows or overwrite existing time-series readings in TDengine, which can lead to wrong dashboard values and alarms. Confidentiality is not rated as affected.

Affected

  • mqttsnet ThingLinks versions before 1.4.0
  • Affected component: TDengine TDS APIs (TDS module, insert-table-data flow)

Fixed in

  • Fixed in ThingLinks 1.4.0 (release notes: moved TDS operations behind internal routes, validated dynamic identifiers, bound values as parameters)
  • Unknown whether any older maintenance branch received a backport.

Workaround

  • No vendor-published workaround found.
  • Restrict network access to the ThingLinks HTTP interface and block internet access to the /anyUser/ paths until the upgrade is complete.
  • Keep the TDengine database off untrusted networks.

Exploitation

  • No confirmed exploitation in the wild at time of writing.
  • Not listed in CISA KEV. CISA SSVC: Exploitation none, automatable yes, technical impact partial.
  • No public proof of concept known in the indexes checked; status may change.

Our recommendation

  • Inventory all ThingLinks instances and confirm their version.
  • Remove internet exposure of ThingLinks and the /anyUser/ paths now.
  • Upgrade to 1.4.0 as soon as it can be tested. The same release also fixes CVE-2026-62853 (Groovy script code execution).
  • Review web server, application and TDengine logs for SQL errors or unexpected inserts on the insert-table-data flow.
  • Check the vendor advisory GHSA-gcj7-r5wv-348x for updates to the affected range.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)

ThingLinks is an enterprise IoT platform. Prior to 1.4.0, an unauthenticated SQL injection vulnerability in the `TDengine TDS APIs` allows request-controlled JSON field values submitted to `/anyUser/tds/insertTableData` to reach unsafe SQL construction in the `TDS mapper`. A remote unauthenticated attacker can tamper with TDengine time-series data, including inserting unintended rows or overwriting existing readings. The affected surface is the TDS module's insert-table-data flow and TDengine mapper SQL generation. This issue is fixed in version 1.4.0.
