Oracle Solaris: Local compromise by low-privileged user in Services

CVE-2026-60662High 7.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Oracle Solaris 11.4 is affected by a vulnerability in the Services component. A local attacker with a low-privileged logon on the host can compromise the system, with high impact on confidentiality, integrity and availability. The flaw is not reachable over the network, so the risk is highest on multi-user Solaris hosts or where untrusted local accounts exist.

Affected

  • Oracle Solaris 11.4 (Services component)
  • Oracle lists no other affected versions for this CVE.

Fixed in

  • Included in Oracle's October 2026 Critical Patch Update (released 20 October 2026).
  • Specific patch or SRU identifiers for this CVE: Unknown. Check the Solaris section of the Oracle advisory or the Solaris 11.4 SRU for October 2026 in My Oracle Support.

Workaround

  • No workaround is needed because a patch exists.
  • Whether Oracle documents an interim mitigation: Unknown.

Exploitation

  • Exploited in the wild: no evidence found.
  • Public proof of concept: no evidence found.
  • EPSS: 0.00151 (low).
  • CISA SSVC: Exploitation none, not automatable, total technical impact.
  • CISA KEV: not checked.

Our recommendation

  • Install the October 2026 Solaris 11.4 CPU patches as a bundle, starting with hosts that are reachable over the network or have several local users.
  • Review local accounts on Solaris systems and remove unneeded ones.
  • Check whether CVE-2026-91252 (Services, HTTP, CVSS 8.2) also affects your Solaris 11.4 servers and patch it in the same cycle.
  • Confirm the CISA KEV status before relying on the 'not exploited' finding.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
