Finsys Dockhand: Unauthenticated container exec via WebSocket upgrade
Summary
Dockhand, a Docker management application, does not enforce authentication on the WebSocket upgrade request of its in-browser container terminal endpoint. An attacker with network access to Dockhand who knows a target container ID and a container with an interactive shell can open a raw terminal session and run commands inside that container. Impact may extend to the host if the container has sensitive mounts or runs privileged.
Affected
- Finsys Dockhand versions before 1.0.34
Fixed in
- Version 1.0.34 (vendor release, GHSA-f6q3-chhc-4hxm)
- Later stable releases are available; use the latest stable release unless you have a reason to pin.
Workaround
- No vendor workaround documented.
- Restrict network access to the Dockhand interface with firewalls until the update is applied.
- Do not expose Dockhand to the internet or untrusted networks.
Exploitation
- CISA KEV: not listed at the time of research.
- No public exploit code confirmed at the time of research.
- CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable no, technical impact total.
- Exploitation requires network reach to Dockhand and knowledge of a container ID.
Our recommendation
- Inventory all Dockhand instances, including NAS and home-lab deployments, and record their versions.
- Upgrade to 1.0.34 or later as soon as possible.
- Until patched, block access to the Dockhand port from untrusted networks and the internet.
- Review containers reachable through Dockhand for sensitive mounts, Docker socket access and privileged mode.
- Check logs for unexpected WebSocket connections to /exec endpoints and unexpected commands in containers.
- Recheck NVD, CISA KEV and the vendor advisory in a few days, as scoring and status may change.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)
Dockhand is a Docker management application. Prior to 1.0.34, the in-browser container terminal endpoint /api/containers/<id>/exec does not enforce authentication on the WebSocket upgrade request. When an unauthenticated attacker has network reach to Dockhand, knows a target container ID, and targets a container with an interactive shell, the attacker can open a raw WebSocket terminal session and execute commands inside a known target container. This allows unauthenticated command execution inside the container, with possible host compromise when the container has sensitive mounts or privileged execution. This issue is fixed in version 1.0.34.
