RClone Manager: Missing authentication in local rclone daemon API
Summary
RClone Manager starts a local rclone daemon on 127.0.0.1:51900 without authentication and with cross-origin access allowed. A malicious web page opened by a user while the daemon runs can send requests to this API with the user's operating-system privileges. An attacker can then read configured storage credentials and access, modify or exfiltrate local files and files reachable through configured remotes. Command execution is mentioned in the advisory but not confirmed.
Affected
- RClone Manager versions before 0.2.7
Fixed in
- Version 0.2.7 (vendor advisory)
Workaround
Unknown. The vendor documents no workaround.
- Not vendor guidance: stop RClone Manager when it is not needed and avoid browsing untrusted websites while it runs.
Exploitation
- CISA SSVC in the CVE record: exploitation status PoC, not automatable, technical impact total.
- No public proof of concept found in the research.
- No evidence of exploitation in the wild found.
- Remote code execution is unconfirmed.
Our recommendation
- Update RClone Manager to version 0.2.7 or later on all workstations and laptops.
- Inventory where RClone Manager is installed, including headless variants, and check their versions.
- Until the update is applied, close the application when it is not needed and avoid visiting untrusted websites while it runs.
- Review storage credentials configured in RClone Manager and rotate them if exposure is suspected.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)
RClone Manager is a cross-platform GUI application designed to help users manage Rclone remotes efficiently. Prior to 0.2.7, RClone Manager starts the local rclone rcd service on 127.0.0.1:51900 with --rc-no-auth, --rc-allow-origin *, and --rc-serve. A malicious web page opened by a user while the daemon is running can therefore send cross-origin requests to the unauthenticated local API with the user's operating-system privileges. The requests can disclose configured storage credentials and potentially access, upload, modify, or exfiltrate locally stored files accessible to the user and files available through configured remotes; the advisory's possible command-execution impact remains unconfirmed. This issue is fixed in version 0.2.7.
