CVE-2026-48379High 7.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Adobe Substance 3D Painter up to and including version 12.1.5 contains a stack-based buffer overflow (CWE-121) tracked as CVE-2026-48379. An attacker who gets a user to open a malicious file can execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the current user. Exploitation requires user interaction, and the flaw is local rather than network-exposed.

Affected

  • Adobe Substance 3D Painter 12.1.5 and earlier versions (all platforms)

Fixed in

  • Adobe Substance 3D Painter 12.2 (all platforms), per Adobe bulletin APSB26-178
  • Exact fixed build to be confirmed in the advisory table before rollout

Workaround

  • Unknown. No vendor-documented workaround.
  • Interim measure (not from vendor): only open project or texture files from trusted sources until patched.

Exploitation

  • Adobe is not aware of any exploits in the wild.
  • No public proof of concept found; SecurityFocus lists no public exploit and no CISA KEV entry.
  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable no.

Our recommendation

  • Update Substance 3D Painter to 12.2 or later via the Creative Cloud desktop app or the Admin Console.
  • Prioritise workstations used for 3D, texturing or design work.
  • Update together with CVE-2026-48380 (same bulletin).
  • Until patched, only open files from trusted sources.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
