Dynamic User Directory WordPress plugin: PHP Object Injection

CVE-2026-42719Critical 9.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

The WordPress plugin Dynamic User Directory up to and including version 2.4 is affected by a PHP Object Injection vulnerability (CWE-502) that can be triggered by a subscriber-level user, according to the CVE title. The CVSS vector assumes no privileges are required, and this discrepancy is not yet resolved. Successful exploitation may allow an attacker to manipulate data processing on the server, with impacts that Patchstack and the CVSS score rate as critical (CVSS 9.8). Exploitation in the wild has not been confirmed, and CISA SSVC lists exploitation as none.

Affected

  • Dynamic User Directory WordPress plugin, all versions up to and including 2.4
  • Required privilege level: unclear (title says Subscriber, CVSS vector says PR:N)

Fixed in

Unknown. No fixed version has been confirmed by the vendor or Patchstack.

Workaround

  • No vendor-issued workaround known.
  • Deactivate and remove the plugin if the directory feature is not business-critical.
  • Restrict public user registration and review subscriber accounts.
  • Place a web application firewall in front of the site and check whether it has a rule for this CVE.

Exploitation

  • Exploited in the wild: no evidence found.
  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable yes, technical impact total.
  • Not listed in CISA KEV; EPSS about 0.005.
  • No public proof of concept found; this does not rule one out.
  • The same plugin has a separate SQL injection, CVE-2026-42720, affecting versions up to 2.4.

Our recommendation

  • Check whether any WordPress site runs Dynamic User Directory version 2.4 or earlier.
  • Deactivate and remove the plugin until a fixed version is confirmed on the wordpress.org changelog or the Patchstack page.
  • Review subscriber accounts and disable open registration if possible.
  • Monitor for unexpected file changes, new admin accounts and unusual outbound connections.
  • Treat the plugin as a whole, since CVE-2026-42720 also affects it.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
