TOTOLINK X2000R: Stack-based buffer overflow in boa formParentControl
Summary
The boa web management interface of the TOTOLINK X2000R router contains a stack-based buffer overflow in the formParentControl function, triggered via the deviceName parameter. An attacker who sends a specially crafted HTTP request after authenticating can execute arbitrary code on the device. The vector assumes high privileges (PR:H), which limits how easily the flaw can be exploited, but a compromised or exposed admin interface would allow full control of the router.
Affected
- TOTOLINK X2000R, firmware TOTOLINK-X2000R-Gh-V1.0.0-B20250421.1327
- Other firmware versions: Unknown.
Fixed in
Unknown.
Workaround
- No vendor workaround is documented in the CVE record.
- Disable remote (WAN) administration.
- Restrict access to the web administration interface to trusted LAN hosts or a management VLAN.
- Change default administrator credentials to unique, strong passwords.
Exploitation
- CISA KEV: not listed.
- Exploited in the wild: no evidence found.
- Public proof of concept: none found.
- CISA SSVC: Exploitation none, Automatable no, Technical Impact total.
- EPSS at the time of research: 0.00737 (not verified against the official source).
Our recommendation
- Check whether any TOTOLINK X2000R is in use and whether its web administration is reachable from the internet.
- Disable remote administration and restrict access to trusted LAN hosts.
- Change default and shared administrator passwords.
- Check the TOTOLINK website for a fixed firmware and apply it as soon as it is available; if no fix is published, plan to replace the device.
- Also review CVE-2026-41222, which affects the same product through the formParentControl function.
- Monitor the router for unexpected configuration changes or outbound connections.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)
A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the boa formParentControl deviceName functionality of X2000R (version(s): TOTOLINK-X2000R-Gh-V1.0.0-B20250421.1327). A specially crafted HTTP request can lead to arbitrary code execution. An attacker can make an authenticated HTTP request to trigger this vulnerability.
