Red Lion Controls N-Tron 700 Series: Hard-coded default admin credentials

CVE-2026-32645Critical 9.2

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

The N-Tron 700 Series industrial switches from Red Lion Controls (HMS Networks) ship with default factory credentials that have administrative access. These credentials stay enabled even after other administrator accounts are configured. An attacker who can reach the device can log in as administrator, view, edit and upload configuration files, and reboot the switch via a crafted URL. The CVSS 4.0 vector rates the attack vector as local and requires high privileges.

Affected

  • Red Lion Controls 700 Series (N-Tron 700 Series) firmware up to and including 3.11.0
  • Bootloader up to and including 2.0.6.1

Fixed in

  • Firmware 3.11.1 or greater (vendor recommendation)
  • No fixed bootloader version stated by the vendor.

Workaround

  • Configure or disable the SNMP communities.
  • Disable access to the web GUI.
  • Changing the admin password may not remove the default account; confirm with HMS.

Exploitation

  • No known exploitation (CISA SSVC: Exploitation none; Automatable: no).
  • Not listed in CISA KEV; PSIRT reports no public exploit.

Our recommendation

  • Inventory all N-Tron 700 switches and record firmware and bootloader versions.
  • Update firmware to 3.11.1 or greater where possible.
  • Until then, restrict management access to a dedicated management VLAN and disable the web GUI and unused SNMP communities.
  • Ask HMS support whether the default account can be disabled or removed.
  • Monitor for unexpected configuration changes or reboots.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
