IBM DataPower Gateway: Heap-based buffer overflow enables remote code execution

CVE-2026-14888Critical 9.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

IBM DataPower Gateway versions 10.5.0.0 to 10.5.0.22, 10.6.0.0 to 10.6.0.10, 10.6.1 to 10.6.6 and 11.0.0.0 to 11.0.0.2 contain a heap-based buffer overflow (CWE-122). According to the CVE record, a remote attacker can exploit it without authentication to execute arbitrary code, which could give full control over the gateway. The CVSS base score is 9.8 (CRITICAL) in the CVE record.

Affected

  • IBM DataPower Gateway 10.5.0.0 through 10.5.0.22
  • IBM DataPower Gateway 10.6.0.0 through 10.6.0.10
  • IBM DataPower Gateway 10.6.1 through 10.6.6 (10.6CD)
  • IBM DataPower Gateway 11.0.0.0 through 11.0.0.2

Fixed in

  • IBM DataPower Gateway 10.5.0: 10.5.0.23
  • IBM DataPower Gateway 10.6.0: 10.6.0.11
  • IBM DataPower Gateway 10.6CD (10.6.1 to 10.6.6): 11.0.0.3
  • IBM DataPower Gateway 11.0.0: 11.0.0.3

(Fix mapping taken from the CVE record. Verify against the IBM advisory before deployment.)

Workaround

Unknown. No CVE-specific workaround from IBM has been identified. Patching is the primary remediation.

Exploitation

  • CISA SSVC assessment: exploitation none, not automatable, total technical impact.
  • No evidence of exploitation in the wild was found at the time of research.
  • No public proof of concept was found.
  • Recheck the CISA KEV catalogue, as the status may have changed.

Our recommendation

  • Check whether any DataPower Gateway instance is in use and which version it runs.
  • Apply the fixed version listed in the IBM advisory (node/7289775) as soon as possible.
  • If patching is delayed, restrict management and gateway access to trusted networks only.
  • Monitor the CISA KEV catalogue and IBM security bulletins for updates.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)

IBM DataPower Gateway 10.5.0.0 through 10.5.0.22, 10.6.1 through 10.6.6, 10.6.0.0 through 10.6.0.10, and 11.0.0.0 through 11.0.0.2 could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code due to a heap-based buffer overflow.
