Ubiquiti airMAX M: Stored cross-site scripting enables privilege escalation

CVE-2026-116836High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Ubiquiti airMAX M wireless networking devices contain a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability (CWE-79). An attacker with access to the adjacent network can store malicious script on the device, which runs when a user views the affected page, and can use this to escalate privileges on the device. Exploitation requires adjacent-network access and user interaction under certain conditions. The CVSS base score is 8.8 (v3.1), and the NVD record was still awaiting analysis at the time of research.

Affected

  • airMAX M 6.3.24 and earlier (vendor advisory)
  • airMAX M 6.3.25: unclear, treat as affected until Ubiquiti confirms
  • CNA data: versions 0 to below 6.3.26

Fixed in

  • airMAX M 6.3.26 or later

Workaround

  • The vendor advisory lists no workaround; the firmware update is the documented remedy.
  • General hardening (not vendor-verified): restrict access from untrusted adjacent networks, segment the network and monitor device logs for suspicious script content.

Exploitation

  • No confirmed exploitation in the wild.
  • No public proof of concept found.
  • CISA KEV status: not listed.
  • EPSS: 0.19 %.

Our recommendation

  • Inventory airMAX M devices and their firmware versions.
  • Update to airMAX M 6.3.26 or later and treat 6.3.25 as affected until Ubiquiti confirms otherwise.
  • Restrict device management to a dedicated management VLAN with admin-only access.
  • Remove or limit administrative access from guest, office or other untrusted networks.
  • Patch the related CVE-2026-116837 (heap overflow, CVSS 8.8) and CVE-2026-116839 (CSRF, CVSS 7.1) in the same update.
  • Check the vendor advisory and NVD for updates.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
