Lagoon: Remote code execution in core ssh service
Summary
Lagoon, an application delivery platform for Kubernetes, contains a vulnerability in the ssh service of Lagoon core. An attacker with a valid Lagoon user account can execute arbitrary code, which may lead to elevated administrative permissions. The CNA record is rated CVSS 4.0 9.4 (critical). Exposure depends on whether the ssh service is reachable.
Affected
- Lagoon core versions prior to 2.33.2 (the CNA prose says prior to 2.33.1; treat 2.33.1 and earlier as affected)
- Unknown whether older release lines are affected
Fixed in
- Lagoon v2.33.2
- Included in the lagoon/lagoon-core Helm chart v1.62.2
Workaround
- Disable the ssh service in Lagoon core.
- The ssh-portal service and components are not affected and can continue to be used.
Exploitation
- No confirmed exploitation in the wild found.
- CISA SSVC assessment: exploitation none, not automatable, total technical impact.
- No public proof-of-concept found.
Our recommendation
- Inventory all Lagoon core deployments, including Helm chart versions.
- Upgrade to Lagoon 2.33.2 or later (lagoon-core chart 1.62.2 or later).
- If patching is not immediate, disable the ssh service.
- Review ssh container logs for 'too many arguments' as an indicator of exploitation; a clean search does not prove the system is safe.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)
Lagoon is an application delivery platform for Kubernetes. Versions prior to 2.33.1 have a vulnerability in the `ssh` service in Lagoon core that would allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code which could lead to, among other things, elevated administrative permissions. It is mitigated by the fact that an attacker must have a Lagoon user account. Exploitation may be detected by checking the container logs of the `ssh` service for: `too many arguments`. The vulnerability was fixed in Lagoon v2.33.2, which is included in the `lagoon/lagoon-core` helm chart v1.62.2. As a workaround, the `ssh` service in Lagoon core can be disabled. The `ssh-portal` service and components are not effected and can continue to be used.
