Google Chrome: Use after free in Transactions Platform allows sandboxed code execution

CVE-2026-113141High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Google Chrome versions before 156.0.8078.47 contain a use-after-free vulnerability in the Transactions Platform component. A remote attacker can execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox by luring a user to a crafted HTML page. The NVD score is 8.8 (High), and the description does not claim a sandbox escape, so full system compromise would require an additional flaw.

Affected

  • Google Chrome prior to 156.0.8078.47
  • Desktop builds (Windows, macOS, Linux) as listed in the Chrome 156 stable channel update
  • Distribution packages of Chromium: check the vendor advisories of your distribution, e.g. Debian DSA 6577-1 and DLA 4853-1 (exact package versions unverified)
  • Ubuntu chromium-browser package: listed as not affected; the Chromium snap is the component to check

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 156.0.8078.47 (Linux) and 156.0.8078.47/.48 (Windows, macOS), per secondary reporting; verify against the vendor advisory
  • Distribution-specific fixed versions: see the respective vendor advisories

Workaround

Unknown. A patch is available; no workaround is documented. Update and restart the browser.

Exploitation

  • No evidence of in-the-wild exploitation found.
  • CISA SSVC: Exploitation 'poc', Automatable 'no', Technical Impact 'total'.
  • No public proof of concept found.
  • A third-party market price estimate exists (USD 5,000 to 25,000); this is not evidence of a working exploit.

Our recommendation

  • Update all Chrome installations to 156.0.8078.47 or later and restart the browser.
  • Check the version at chrome://version on each machine.
  • Enforce updates via device management or Chrome Enterprise policies; check for policies that block or delay updates.
  • Prioritise machines that are offline or pinned to old versions.
  • Check Chromium-based distribution packages and the Chromium snap on Linux systems.
  • Monitor for unusual browser crashes or behaviour.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
