Google Chrome: Memory corruption in PolicyContainer

CVE-2026-113126Critical 9.6

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Memory corruption in the PolicyContainer component of Google Chrome allows a remote attacker to potentially execute arbitrary code outside the browser sandbox. The attacker needs a victim to open a crafted HTML page, so web browsing and email links are the main risk. NVD and Microsoft rate the issue 9.6 (Critical), while VulDB rates it 6.3 (Medium); Chromium rates it Medium. No exploitation in the wild is known.

Affected

  • Google Chrome desktop prior to 156.0.8078.47
  • Chromium-based browsers and packages that include the affected Chromium code (e.g. Microsoft Edge), with their own fixed versions
  • Affected range per VulDB: up to 155.0.8059.84

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 156.0.8078.47 or later (desktop Stable, released 20 October 2026)
  • Some Windows and Mac users may see 156.0.8078.48
  • Android, iOS and ChromeOS builds: Unknown.
  • Chromium-based browsers: fixed versions Unknown.

Workaround

  • None. Updating the browser is the fix; no vendor workaround is required.

Exploitation

  • Not listed in CISA KEV according to third-party trackers; the CISA KEV catalogue was not checked directly.
  • Chromium's release record does not state in-the-wild exploitation.
  • No public proof of concept or exploit found. This does not prove that none exists.

Our recommendation

  • Check the Chrome version on all endpoints, including Chromium-based browsers and Linux packages. Target 156.0.8078.47 or later.
  • Restart the browser on devices that still run older builds.
  • Confirm that Microsoft Edge and other Chromium-based browsers have received their own updates.
  • Monitor the Chrome Releases post and the Chromium bug for changes, including KEV listing or public PoC reports.
  • Prioritise this as a high-priority browser update within the normal critical patch cycle.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
