Google Chrome: Use after free in Extensions allows sandbox code execution

CVE-2026-113112High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Google Chrome versions before 156.0.8078.47 contain a use-after-free vulnerability (CWE-416) in the Extensions component. A remote attacker can execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox by luring a user to a crafted HTML page. User interaction is required, and full compromise typically needs a second flaw to escape the sandbox.

Affected

  • Google Chrome (desktop) prior to 156.0.8078.47
  • Windows, Mac and Linux builds of Chrome 156 are listed as 156.0.8078.47 or 156.0.8078.48 by third-party sources; confirm against the vendor advisory.
  • Other Chromium-based browsers and Linux distribution packages are not confirmed here.

Fixed in

  • Chrome 156 stable (Windows, Mac, Linux), released 20 October 2026, with build 156.0.8078.47 or later.
  • Use the latest 156.x build available for your platform.

Workaround

  • Unknown. No vendor-specific workaround was found.
  • Interim measures not verified against a vendor source: enforce automatic Chrome updates via managed policy and restrict extension installation to approved extensions.

Exploitation

  • No evidence of exploitation in the wild found.
  • No public proof of concept found.
  • Not listed in CISA KEV according to a third-party snapshot; re-check the CISA KEV catalog.
  • CISA SSVC: Exploitation none, Automatable no, Technical Impact total.

Our recommendation

  • Update Chrome on all endpoints to version 156.0.8078.47 or later, preferably the latest 156.x build.
  • Verify the browser version centrally, for example via managed policy or endpoint management.
  • Check Microsoft Edge and other Chromium-based browsers and apply their updates.
  • Restrict extension installation to approved extensions.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
