Google Chrome: Use-after-free in Extensions allows code execution in sandbox

CVE-2026-113105High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Google Chrome before 156.0.8078.47 contains a use-after-free flaw (CWE-416) in its Extensions component. A remote attacker can execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox by luring a victim to a crafted HTML page. The attack requires no credentials but needs user interaction, and no sandbox escape has been reported.

Affected

  • Google Chrome prior to 156.0.8078.47 (desktop)

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 156.0.8078.47 (per CVE description; the vendor post could not be fully verified)
  • Newer 156.x builds are available and should be used

Workaround

  • No vendor-published workaround. Applying the update is required.
  • Restrict extension installation to approved sources via Chrome enterprise policy (general hardening, not vendor-sourced).

Exploitation

  • No evidence of in-the-wild exploitation found.
  • CISA KEV: not listed.
  • No public proof of concept found.
  • CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable no, technical impact total.

Our recommendation

  • Update all Google Chrome installations to the latest 156.x build now.
  • Verify that all Chromium-based browsers (for example Edge, Brave, Vivaldi) are updated.
  • Check Linux systems separately, because distribution packages may be handled differently.
  • Keep automatic updates enabled and monitor for managed or disabled update policies.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
