Google Chrome: Use-after-free in Input allows code execution in sandbox

CVE-2026-113068High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

A use-after-free vulnerability in the Input component of Google Chrome desktop allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox. Exploitation requires the victim to open a crafted HTML page, so the risk is drive-by via malicious or compromised websites. Full compromise typically requires an additional sandbox escape, which is not described in this CVE.

Affected

  • Google Chrome desktop versions prior to 156.0.8078.47
  • Chromium-based browsers that ingest the same fix, such as Microsoft Edge (exact affected build to be confirmed in the MSRC entry)

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 156.0.8078.47 or later (the vendor advisory should be checked for the exact build per platform, as sources differ between .47 and .48)
  • Microsoft Edge: fixed version per MSRC (a third-party bulletin cites 156.0.4314.42 or later)
  • Ubuntu: fix delivered via the Chromium snap (chromium-browser package marked Not affected)

Workaround

  • No vendor workaround identified. Updating is the remedy.

Exploitation

  • CISA SSVC assessment: Exploitation none, Automatable no, Technical Impact total.
  • No evidence of in-the-wild exploitation or public proof-of-concept code was found. This means no information was found, not that exploitation is ruled out.
  • A similar CVE-2026-76031 (fixed in 156.0.8078.79) is not to be confused with this CVE.

Our recommendation

  • Verify that all Chrome endpoints run 156.0.8078.47 or later and that Edge runs the MSRC-fixed version.
  • Enforce browser restart after updates, as machines that are rarely restarted may remain unpatched.
  • Check managed fleets and Linux systems using the Chromium snap.
  • Patch deployment priority: high. Not an emergency unless exploitation is reported.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
