Google Chrome: Use-after-free in Animation allows code execution in sandbox

CVE-2026-112995High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

A use-after-free vulnerability in the Animation component of Google Chrome allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox. The victim must open a crafted HTML page, and no privileges are required. The sandbox is a separate protection layer, so this flaw alone does not give full control over the system.

Affected

  • Google Chrome prior to 156.0.8078.47 (according to the NVD description)
  • Conflicting third-party data: VulDB lists up to 155.0.8059.84. Not verified against the vendor advisory.

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 156.0.8078.47 or later for Windows, macOS and Linux, according to third-party reports
  • Install the newest Stable build, as later Stable builds also exist.

Workaround

Unknown. No vendor workaround found. Installing the fixed build is the remedy.

Exploitation

  • No evidence of in-the-wild exploitation found.
  • No public proof-of-concept found. Status unknown rather than confirmed absent.
  • A community tracker lists the CVE as not in CISA KEV. Not verified against the catalog.

Our recommendation

  • Update Google Chrome on all workstations to the newest Stable build.
  • Verify the version on managed devices, including pinned devices or devices with disabled updates.
  • Check Chromium-based products (Edge, Brave, etc.) and Linux distribution packages separately against their own advisories.
  • Prioritise workstations used for web browsing.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
