Workreap Core: Blind SQL injection in WordPress plugin
Summary
The WordPress plugin Workreap Core by AmentoTech, used with the Workreap Freelance Marketplace theme, contains a blind SQL injection flaw (CWE-89) in versions before 3.4.4. An attacker who can send crafted requests can read, modify or delete database content, including user accounts and private data. Patchstack reports that the attacker needs a low-privileged account (Subscriber), so sites that allow open registration are at higher risk. The CVSS score is disputed: the CVE record gives 8.5, while VulDB gives 4.7.
Affected
- Workreap Core WordPress plugin, all versions before 3.4.4 (sources differ on the start of the range: n/a or 0; VulDB states up to 3.4.3)
- Required privilege: Subscriber (per Patchstack)
Fixed in
- Update to Workreap Core 3.4.4 or later (per Patchstack and VulDB)
- No vendor advisory found; check the AmentoTech release notes before rollout
Workaround
- Unknown from the vendor. Patchstack only recommends updating, or asking the hosting provider or developer for help.
- Interim measures (own suggestion, not from a source): WAF virtual patch, restrict self-registration and logins, review database and user accounts for signs of abuse.
Exploitation
- Not marked as known exploited; no CISA KEV listing found.
- CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable no, technical impact partial.
- Patchstack rates it high priority and expects exploitation, which is a prediction and not evidence.
- No public proof of concept found.
Our recommendation
- Update Workreap Core to 3.4.4 or later on all sites immediately.
- Check whether any client runs the plugin below 3.4.4 and prioritise sites with open registration.
- After patching, review user accounts, database content and web logs for signs of abuse.
- Consider a WAF virtual patch if an update cannot be applied at once.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
