Craft CMS: Authorization bypass in GraphQL mutations allows cross-site content changes
Summary
Craft CMS from 5.0.0 before 5.11.0 does not enforce GraphQL token site scope on entry creation and on delete mutations for categories, tags and assets. An attacker holding a GraphQL token scoped to one site can create entries in another site and delete shared content. The attacker must first obtain a valid site-scoped token, and the impact is limited to multi-site installations.
Affected
- Craft CMS 5.0.0 up to but not including 5.11.0
- Multi-site installations with GraphQL tokens are the relevant case
- Single-site installations are probably not affected by the cross-site part (not verified)
Fixed in
- Craft CMS 5.11.0 or later
- Note: GHSA-3wcr-p33w-528f (fixed in 5.10.11) covers the entry save and delete mutations. Unknown whether 5.10.11 covers the full scope of this CVE; use 5.11.0 as the target.
Workaround
- No vendor workaround known. Upgrading to 5.11.0 or later is the remedy.
- Review and revoke unused or over-scoped GraphQL tokens (not confirmed as an official mitigation).
- Review entry create, modify and delete events for writes outside a token's intended site scope (secondary source, not confirmed for this CVE).
Exploitation
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): No
- Public proof of concept: None found; VulDB states no exploit exists. A full search of exploit repositories was not performed.
- CISA SSVC: Exploitation none, automatable yes, technical impact total.
Our recommendation
- Check whether Craft CMS is used in a multi-site setup with GraphQL tokens.
- Update Craft CMS to 5.11.0 or later; verify the current release list before choosing a target.
- Review and restrict GraphQL tokens to the sites they need, and rotate tokens that may be over-scoped.
- Monitor entry creation and deletion events for writes outside a token's site scope.
- Prioritise internet-facing sites with shared multi-site content.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)
Craft CMS from 5.0.0 before 5.11.0 contains an authorization bypass vulnerability that allows site-scoped GraphQL tokens to mutate other sites' content because requireAllowedSite() is not enforced. Attackers holding a site-A token can create entries in site B via supplied siteId and delete entries, categories, tags, and assets shared across sites.
