Amazon Kiro Crew: Missing authorization in WhatsApp channel
Summary
Kiro Crew, an open-source personal AI agent that runs tools on the operator's machine, has a missing authorization flaw in its WhatsApp channel and internal subagent run-control endpoints. A member of a WhatsApp group that the operator has linked can send instructions that another session's subagent executes on the host, with audit entries attributed to the operator. The issue only applies to non-default configurations where a WhatsApp group is in the allowed groups or the direct-message policy is set to open.
Affected
- Amazon Kiro Crew 0.4.0 to 0.7.1 (versions >=0.4.0 and <0.7.2)
- Only if a WhatsApp group is listed in whatsapp.groups or whatsapp.dm_policy is set to open
- Default configuration: not affected
Fixed in
- Upgrade to Kiro Crew 0.7.2 (fix PR #14338)
Workaround
- Remove all entries from whatsapp.groups and keep whatsapp.dm_policy at self (default), so group traffic is dropped before dispatch
- Alternatively, disable the WhatsApp channel until the update is applied
Exploitation
- CISA SSVC: exploitation none, automatable no, technical impact total
- Not listed in CISA KEV
- No public proof of concept or active exploitation found; unverified
Our recommendation
- Check whether Kiro Crew is in use and whether the WhatsApp channel is enabled
- Verify whatsapp.groups is empty and whatsapp.dm_policy is self
- Upgrade to version 0.7.2 or later, including any forked or derived code
- Disable the WhatsApp channel if the upgrade cannot be applied promptly
- Review audit logs and subagent activity for unexpected commands
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)
Missing authorization in the WhatsApp group channel in Kiro Crew might allow a remote actor who is a member of an operator-configured WhatsApp group to control the operator's other agent sessions and execute arbitrary commands on the host running Kiro Crew via messages sent to the group. To remediate this issue, users should upgrade to version 0.7.2.
