Vanus: Missing authentication in gateway CloudEvents HTTP receiver
Summary
Vanus versions 0.8.0 through 0.9.0 do not authenticate events sent to the gateway's CloudEvents HTTP receiver. An unauthenticated remote attacker can send forged CloudEvents to any eventbus by bypassing token authentication and publish authorization checks. The forged events are stored and delivered to subscription sinks, which affects data integrity and can trigger downstream actions. The CVE record does not describe a confidentiality impact.
Affected
- Vanus 0.8.0 through 0.9.0 (CVE record: >= 0.8.0, <= 0.9.0)
- The CVE record lists the default status as unaffected; verify the actual configuration of your deployment.
Fixed in
Unknown. No vendor advisory or fixed version could be confirmed. Do not assume that 0.9.0 is safe.
Workaround
- Restrict network access to the gateway's CloudEvents HTTP port (cluster-internal only, or behind an authenticating proxy or ingress policy).
- Verify the effect of these measures on your own deployment before applying them.
Exploitation
- Not known to be exploited; not listed in CISA KEV.
- CISA SSVC assessment: exploitation none, automatable yes, technical impact partial.
- No public proof of concept found; this does not prove that none exists.
Our recommendation
- Inventory all Vanus deployments, including versions, Kubernetes manifests and container images.
- Check whether the gateway port is reachable from untrusted networks and restrict access if it is.
- Treat Vanus 0.8.0 to 0.9.0 as high priority, since the related CVE-2026-111998 describes default credentials with cluster-admin access.
- Monitor the vendor releases and the GitHub issue for a fixed version and verify it before upgrading.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)
Vanus 0.8.0 through 0.9.0 contains a missing authentication vulnerability that allows unauthenticated remote attackers to publish events to any eventbus through the gateway CloudEvents HTTP receiver. Attackers can send forged CloudEvents to the /namespaces/{ns}/eventbus/{name}/events or legacy /gateway/{name} paths, bypassing token authentication and authPublish checks, so they are stored and delivered to subscription sinks.
