FreeRDP: Heap out-of-bounds write in audin Apple backends (integer overflow)

CVE-2026-111380High 8.7

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

An integer overflow in the audio input (audin) backends for macOS and iOS allows a malicious RDP server to cause a heap out-of-bounds write in the FreeRDP client. The fix for CVE-2026-91962 checked FramesPerPacket but left the buffer size calculation unchecked, so the value can wrap to a tiny allocation. The attack requires that the client connects to the malicious server, and the advisory describes possible crashes or code execution.

Affected

  • FreeRDP 3.29.0 before 3.32.0 (CNA range)
  • Apple backends audin_mac.m and audin_ios.m (macOS and iOS clients)

Fixed in

  • Fixed in FreeRDP 3.32.0
  • Distribution packages: check your vendor's build (for example Ubuntu freerdp3 3.32.0+dfsg-0ubuntu0.24.04.1)

Workaround

Unknown.

  • Do not connect macOS or iOS FreeRDP clients to untrusted RDP servers until the update is installed.

Exploitation

  • The advisory includes a proof of concept, and CISA SSVC lists exploitation as "poc".
  • Automatable: no (CISA SSVC).
  • No known exploitation in the wild in the sources reviewed.

Our recommendation

  • Update FreeRDP on macOS and iOS clients to 3.32.0 or a distribution build that includes the fix.
  • Inventory where FreeRDP clients are installed, especially on Apple devices.
  • Limit RDP connections to trusted, company-controlled servers.
  • Monitor for crashes of FreeRDP clients as a possible sign of exploitation.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)

FreeRDP from 3.29.0 before 3.32.0 contains an integer overflow in the Apple audin backends (audin_mac.m, audin_ios.m), which compute the audio queue buffer size as FramesPerPacket * 2 * nChannels in UINT32 arithmetic, bypassing the CVE-2026-91962 fix. A malicious RDP server can send FramesPerPacket of 2^30 in the audin Open PDU to wrap the multiplication, causing undersized AudioQueueAllocateBuffer allocations and a heap out-of-bounds write in macOS and iOS clients.
