transcribe2texts: OS command injection via transcribeAudio audioPath

CVE-2026-110643Critical 9.3

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

The npm package transcribe2texts through version 1.0.6 builds a shell command from the audioPath parameter of transcribeAudio() without proper escaping. An attacker who can influence this path can inject shell constructs such as $() or backticks and run arbitrary commands with the privileges of the Node.js process. Exposure depends on the application: the risk is high if outside users can control the file names passed to the function, for example through an upload feature.

Affected

  • transcribe2texts 0 through 1.0.6
  • Versions later than 1.0.6: unknown

Fixed in

  • Unknown. No released fixed version is known.
  • A proposed fix exists in pull request #1 of the GitHub repository (execFile instead of exec). Whether it has been merged or released is unknown.

Workaround

  • Pass only server-generated file paths to transcribeAudio(), never user-influenced strings.
  • Apply the change from pull request #1 manually in your own copy, or remove the package until a fixed release is available.
  • Run the Node.js process with least privileges and restrict its file system and network access.

Exploitation

  • CISA SSVC assessment: exploitation none, automatable yes, technical impact total.
  • No reports of exploitation in the wild, no CISA KEV listing and no public proof of concept were found.

Our recommendation

  • Search all projects, package.json and lock files for transcribe2texts.
  • Check whether any application passes uploaded or user-supplied file names to transcribeAudio().
  • Remove or isolate affected components until a fixed version is confirmed.
  • Monitor the GitHub repository for a release and update promptly.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)

transcribe2texts through 1.0.6 contains an OS command injection vulnerability that allows attackers to execute commands by supplying crafted audioPath values to transcribeAudio(). Attackers can inject $() or backtick substitution or a closing quote into the unescaped path passed to child_process.exec() to run commands with Node.js process privileges.
