OttoKit WordPress plugin: Privilege escalation to administrator

CVE-2026-110372Critical 9.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

The OttoKit WordPress plugin (formerly SureTriggers) up to and including version 1.1.40 assigns privileges incorrectly. An attacker can use this to escalate privileges, potentially becoming an administrator with full control over the website. Sources disagree on whether an attacker needs a login: Patchstack lists it as unauthenticated, while TheHackerWire states that a low-privileged authenticated user is required. The CVSS score is 9.8 (critical).

Affected

  • OttoKit WordPress plugin (Brainstorm Force), all versions up to and including 1.1.40

Fixed in

  • Version 1.1.41 (according to Patchstack; no vendor changelog confirmation found)

Workaround

  • No vendor workaround known.
  • If the plugin is not essential, deactivate it.
  • Review administrator and other privileged accounts for unexpected entries.
  • Check logs for activity from non-admin accounts involving the plugin.

Exploitation

  • Status unclear. Patchstack labels the issue as known exploited (KEV) but also says it is expected to become exploited. Other sources list no KEV entry.
  • A Nuclei detection template is listed, which suggests public check code; this is unverified.
  • Treat as possibly exploited, not confirmed.

Our recommendation

  • Check all WordPress sites for the OttoKit plugin, including inactive installations.
  • Update to version 1.1.41 or later immediately.
  • If an update is not possible, deactivate or remove the plugin, or ask your hosting provider or web developer for help.
  • Review administrator accounts and recent changes for signs of compromise.
  • Monitor logs for unexpected privilege changes.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
