Rapyd Admin: Authorization bypass in user management
Summary
Rapyd Admin is an open-source admin panel for Laravel. Versions 9.0.0 up to 9.19.x contain an authorization bypass in the UsersModalEditEmbed Livewire component. An authenticated company member with the default customer role can edit or delete arbitrary user accounts by dispatching editUser or deleteUser with predictable sequential user IDs. This allows resetting owner or super admin passwords, promoting oneself to owner, and deleting users.
Affected
- zofe Rapyd Admin 9.0.0 before 9.20.0 (CNA range)
- Practically 9.0.0 to 9.19.x (VulDB describes the issue up to 9.19.x)
Fixed in
- Upgrade to Rapyd Admin 9.20.0 (vendor release, labelled as a security release)
- Fix commit: acd6ee85f9e5ccec67199673b039c605d161406a
Workaround
Unknown.
Exploitation
- No evidence of exploitation in the wild found at the time of writing.
- CISA SSVC: exploitation none, not automatable, total technical impact.
- Attack requires a valid customer-role account in a company tenant.
Our recommendation
- Update Rapyd Admin to 9.20.0 or later.
- Change the password of the seeded admin account or delete it, as described in the release notes.
- Review user accounts, owner and super admin roles and company memberships for unexpected changes.
- Check logs for unexpected password resets, role changes or user deletions.
- Restrict customer-role accounts to trusted users until the update is applied.
Public exploits
PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
