youlai-boot: Missing authorization in role menu assignment allows privilege escalation

CVE-2026-110215High 8.7

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

youlai-boot through version 2.21.1 does not check authorization on the endpoint that assigns menus and buttons to roles (PUT /api/v1/roles/{roleId}/menus). An authenticated user with low privileges, such as a GUEST test account, can grant all permissions to their own role. After the Redis permission cache is refreshed, the user gains administrator-equivalent access. The attack requires a valid login but no user interaction.

Affected

  • youlai-boot 0 to 2.21.1 (according to the CNA record and VulnCheck)
  • Affected range per OSV: all commits before the fix

Fixed in

  • Unknown. A fix commit is referenced (36d2db6dc559817bd4e02b1f33b1998891850497), but no patched release has been confirmed. The latest release found, v2.21.1, is affected.

Workaround

  • No vendor-published workaround found.
  • Restrict role-management rights and remove or disable shared and test accounts such as GUEST.
  • Limit access to the admin interface to VPN or internal networks.
  • Review role and permission changes for unexpected menu or button grants.

Exploitation

  • Known exploited: not known. CISA SSVC lists exploitation as PoC and automatable as no.
  • A public HackMD write-up is referenced; no public exploit repository was found.
  • EPSS 0.00411 (low).

Our recommendation

  • Check whether your deployment or fork uses youlai-boot up to 2.21.1 and whether it is reachable from the internet or shared with external users.
  • Verify that the fix commit is merged into your code and that the role-menu endpoint checks the caller's authority.
  • Remove default test accounts and enforce least privilege for role management.
  • Monitor role-permission changes and audit logs; after manual fixes, confirm the Redis permission cache is refreshed.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.

Original description (NVD)

youlai-boot through 2.21.1 contains a missing authorization vulnerability that allows authenticated users to assign arbitrary menu and button permissions to roles via PUT /api/v1/roles/{roleId}/menus. Low-privileged users such as the GUEST test account can grant all permissions to their own role, refreshing the Redis permission cache to gain administrator-equivalent access.
