Google Chrome: Use-after-free in Media component

CVE-2026-110167High 8.8

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Google Chrome desktop versions before 155.0.8059.79 contain a use-after-free flaw (CWE-416) in the Media component. A remote attacker can execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox by luring a user to a crafted HTML page. The victim must visit the page, and the NVD description does not report a sandbox escape. Google rates the Chromium security severity as High, and NVD lists a CVSS 3.1 base score of 8.8.

Affected

  • Google Chrome desktop versions prior to 155.0.8059.79
  • Debian 12 (bookworm) chromium: fixed in 155.0.8059.79-1~deb12u1
  • Ubuntu chromium-browser packages: marked as not affected, because they install the Chromium snap, which must be updated separately

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 155.0.8059.79 and later (Stable channel update of 13 October 2026)
  • Debian 12: 155.0.8059.79-1~deb12u1

Workaround

No vendor workaround known. Updating is the remediation.

Exploitation

  • CISA SSVC assessment: exploitation none, automatable no, technical impact total
  • Secondary trackers report the bug is not in the CISA KEV catalog; not independently verified
  • No public proof of concept found by secondary sources
  • Reported by Xinyang Ge, 6 October 2026

Our recommendation

  • Update Google Chrome to 155.0.8059.79 or later on all desktop systems, including Linux and macOS
  • Update the Chromium snap on Ubuntu systems and Debian chromium packages
  • Check that the browser auto-update works and is not blocked by policy
  • Make sure browsers are restarted (Relaunch) after the update, because the update only takes effect after a restart
  • Check other Chromium-based browsers (for example Edge or Brave) for their own vendor updates

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
