Google Chrome: Incorrect reference resolution in Extensions on macOS

CVE-2026-110156High 8.3

← All vulnerabilities

Summary

Google Chrome on macOS contains an incorrect reference resolution flaw in the Extensions component (CWE-706). A remote attacker who has already compromised the renderer process can use a crafted Chrome extension to execute arbitrary code outside the browser sandbox. The CVSS vector (AC:H, UI:R, S:C) reflects a complex attack that requires user interaction, and the flaw is a second-stage bug rather than a standalone entry point.

Affected

  • Google Chrome on macOS prior to 155.0.8059.79

Fixed in

  • Google Chrome 155.0.8059.79 or later for macOS (Google's 13 October 2026 Stable Channel Update lists 155.0.8059.79/.80 for Mac; use the latest stable build)

Workaround

  • Unknown. No vendor-documented workaround. Applying the update is the remediation.

Exploitation

  • CISA SSVC assessment: exploitation none, not automatable, total technical impact.
  • Not listed in CISA KEV according to a third-party aggregator (not verified on the CISA site).
  • EPSS is low (0.21% to 0.298%, depending on the source).
  • No public proof of concept found; this does not prove none exists.
  • No statement found that the flaw is exploited in the wild.

Our recommendation

  • Update Chrome on all Macs to the latest stable version.
  • Verify that Chrome auto-update works on managed and stalled devices, and check for Macs that have not updated since mid-October 2026.
  • In managed fleets, restrict extension installation to an approved list.
  • Monitor for unexpected or unknown browser extensions.

Public exploits

PoC-in-GitHub, Metasploit and Exploit-DB list nothing for this CVE.
